The Mundari are a cattle-herding tribe living remotely along the White Nile River, north of South Sudan’s capital Juba. Their vast herds of sacred cattle graze on fertile river land, with the Mundari living mainly off the milk, not the meat. With each morning massaging their cows with ash, a technique used to keep flies and insects away. Day 1: arrival in Juba the Capital of South Sudan
Our driver guide from Nsheka African adventures will be at the airport to welcome you to Juba, the capital of Africa’s youngest Nation. Depending on the time of your arrival, it is possible to visit the city that was once a trading post used by the colonialists during the 19th century. Places to visit on your City Tour will include the konyokonyo market, the late John Garang tombs.
Day 2: Transfer to Mundari Cattle Camp
Have An early morning breakfast, then depart to terekeka town the capital of the Mundari people. It is a five hour drive from juba. You will have lunch break in a special local restaurant. we shall later proceed and introduce ourselves to the local authority before driving to Nyikabor village where we shall spend the nights having an authentic Mundari cultural experience. Day 3: Full Day Mundari Cattle Camp
We will start the Morning with a cattle camp visit to admire the Mundari tradition. The Mundari are predominantly cattle keepers. The cattle is their everything. It’s a sign of prestige, they use them as dowry and source of income, we shall spend the day trying to learn and understand more about the Mundari culture Visiting small Mundari villages where facial and body scarification are still practiced to this day. Day 4: Full Day Mundari Cattle Camp
Breakfast and an early morning visit to the cattle for sunrise pictures. We later Farewell the Mundari tribe and have a long drive back to Juba for Overnight in Hotel
Day 5: Flight from Juba to Kapoeta with light aircraft
After breakfast we shall take our flight with light aircraft to Kapoeta which is in the Far East and is on the border with Kenya. This is a 1hr scheduled flight for Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Saturday to Kapoeta town. On arrival we shall visit the tribal market to introduce You to the toposa people. In the evening, we shall visit a toposa village then transfer for overnight in Mango camp
Day 6: Kapoeta to Boya
Visit the tribal Kapoeta villages in the morning before they go to the fields to experience their daily life. The Toposa continue to dress in their traditional clothes (leather or cotton) and pierce their lips and scarify their arms, chests, and faces. Each and every scarification is a work of art. After the Toposa village visit, we shall drive to Camp15. We Shall visit the Boya tribal villages. The Boya are similar to the Toposa but speak a different language and decorate their hair in a particular manner. But what makes the main difference is their architecture style. The Boya are magnificent architects and their houses are well built and nicely decorated. Overnight Accommodation in Camping tents.
Day 7: Boya – Lotuko mountains
After your breakfast, we drive to Lotuko Mountains. We will leave the car at the foot of the rocky hills making a 20 minutes climb to Ilieu village, a traditional Lotuko village that is a jewel for nature and architecture lovers. There is a Wall made of rocks, nicely positioned to adapt to the mountain geography. It is a stunning place and we believe it is worth spending one night with the community. Dinner and traditional music and dances in the evening. Overnight Accommodation in Camping tents.
Day 8 : Lotuko Mountains to Torit
After your breakfast, Make your Last visits around the village and even to higher points of the mountain. We shall say fair well to the lotuko and the transfer to Torit town for Overnight Accommodation at TORIT HOTEL BB
Day 9: Transfer to Juba
After your breakfast, we shall embark on a long drive back to juba town through amazing landscapes. Overnight at Royal Palace Hotel
Day 10: Juba City Visit & Flight Home:
Morning Breakfast after visit to John Garang’s –founding Father of South Sudan- mausoleum (no pictures allowed) and some shopping at one of the few artisan places in Juba. Transfer to the airport for your Flight back home.
