3 Day Congo gorilla Tracking tour to Virunga National Park offers a different experience from Uganda and Rwanda giving you a cheaper but unique opportunity to do gorilla trekking at the great Virunga national park which despite bad press and recent closures has so much to offer. The Virunga is also home to 218 species of mammals including Thomas cobs, elephants, lions, buffaloes and the rare Okapi.
Virunga national park is home to the largest population of hippos in the world. Over 19,000 can be found in the numerous rives within and outside the park. However, the key attractions in the park are the mountain gorillas and climbing Mount Nyiragongo 20 percent of the remaining population of mountain gorillas are found here. TOUR DETAILS:
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali-Rwanda to Bukima-DR Congo
Early morning your guide will pick you up from the Hotel and begin your tour with a visit to the Genocide memorial site, where you will get information about what transpired during the 1994 genocide. Have an early lunch and transfer to Goma in Congo a 4 hours’ drive. Connect to a 2 hours’ drive to Bukima in DR Congo. You will arrive in the evening for dinner and an overnight at Mikeno lodge (Up market), Bukima tented camp (Mid-range), Ihusi Hotel-Goma (Budget).
Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Virunga National Park:
Have a morning breakfast, after drive to the park head offices for briefing, where you will be given all the rules concerning gorilla trekking. Start off with trekking through the jungle in search for the Gorillas, you are allowed only 1 hour when you meet with the gentle giants. While on your trek, you are advised to carry enough water, non flash cameras, sturdy trekking shoes, hats, and long sleeved trousers. After return to the lodge, relax in the evening. Have dinner and Overnight at Mikeno lodge (Up market) or Bukima tented camp (Mid range) or Ihusi Hotel-Goma(Budget).
Day 3: Return to Kigali
Enjoy breakfast from the lodge and return back to Kigali to your hotel/lodge having lunch on the way and if you have your flight in the evening; you will be transferred to the airport for your flight Home.
